Gojira In The Studio: Set to record new EP to save whales.

Word on the street is that Gojira will be heading to the studio this summer to record a five-song EP, with all of the proceeds going to anti-whaling organization Sea Shepherd.

My good friend Eric was able to talk to vocalist / guitarist Joe Duplantier awhile back, and I must say, this guy is legit.

The band really does care about the environment and you should too. And you should care about this news, because Gojira rules.

Press release and whale-related song below. And don't forget to check out The Metal Show tonight from 8 to 10 p.m.

CONCERT ALERT: Gojira @ the Picador

Make sure to check out Gojira at the Picador, 330 E. Washington, if you are in the Iowa City area. Doors open at 6 p.m. It should be a badass show, even if it does coincide with University of Iowa's Homecoming.

Also, it looks like Blabbermouth picked up one of the stories which I write as my alter ego for The Daily Iowan.

I'll hopefully be rockin' out front row at the concert!

Ahhh! It's Gojira! (Also Buckethead)

As if October wasn't metal enough with Halloween, the most of evil of holidays, and some sweet concerts in Des Moines (Check out those here), now Iowa City decided it needed to get in the mix and host some awesome bands!

The big draw? Gojira at the The Picador on Saturday, October 10 (yes the same night as AC/DC in Des Moines, now I have to choose!). This band is so badass in a way that only the music can describe, so check out some of their stuff below. "The Way of All Flesh" made my top five in 2008.

Other notable acts include:
Tues September 8: Emmure with Evergreen Terrace, Stick to Your Guns, For Today, and Oceano @ The Picador.

Thurs September 17: Victor Wooten @ The Picador.

Also coming to The Picador on Monday, September 14, is the shredmaster himself, Buckethead. Just watch the videos below. Badass!

I found this cool video of Buckethead jamming when he was younger too.

While We Were Boozing

A lot of music news came out the last couple o' days while I have been in online avoidance mode aka Spring Break. Sometimes you just have to slow things down, grab a bottle of Jimmy Bean and appreciate mother nature (pissing on mother nature is not appreciating it, D'oh).

Anyways here is an update of what we missed while partaking in the festivities of the break/St. Patrick's Day...

+Mastodon are currently streaming the new album "Crack the Skye" on MySpace.

+Judas Priest announced they would be playing "British Steel" in its entirety this summer for the 30th Anniversary of the album (along with other hits). No details yet on them doing all of "Nostradamus". I have heard that will be a more limited run, which is probably a good idea!

+The Frenchies in Gojira announced they will be going on a headlining tour here in States. "The Way of All Flesh" made my top five list of 2009 and they seem to be a tight live band. The closest date to Iowa is May 10 in Chicago, Illinois (see tour dates to the right). I think they should come to People's Court in Des Moines though!

+Killswitch Engage will put out the new CD on June 23. Lets hope they can recapture some of that magic on "Alive or Just Breathing"!
