Not-so-metal News Update

KISS finally released a music video for "Modern Day Delilah". A little late, but it's still a decent rock tune and the video shows off the live show, although it feels like it has been done many times before.

KISS BOOM onto Billboard Charts

Well not yet, but the new KISS album Sonic Boom is expected to sell between 150,000 and 175,000 copies, which would make it land at #1 on the Billboard Charts.

The CD is actually pretty good and the extra DVD and rerecorded classics don't hurt the $12 Walmart price tag. When you think about it KISS's loyal fans probably went out to buy this in droves, so it's no surprise it is selling, but this number is pretty high for today's standards.

Check out KISS playing "Modern Day Delilah" on The Late Show with David Letterman. Paul's voice may be getting a bit raspy, but the band still puts on a great show.

And the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame Award goes to...

KISS!

With Sonic Boom on the way and the Alive 35 Tour, how could the legendary rock band not get inducted???

It's going to happen, mark my words. And most likely this year.

Today KISS was announced to be among a dozen finalists in contention for the honorable award. Now we just need to get bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden in there!

Now it seems like Ace and Peter would have to be present for the ceremony or fans would revolt. Just maybe they would end with a jam between the old and new members a la MTV Unplugged?

KISS and Arch Enemy Clips

Yup. Both Kiss and Arch Enemy have some new clips out. And I'm not sure what to think about either, but I'll wait for the full CD's to judge. Sonic Boom out on October 6th. Root of All Evil same day.

Is it just me or does that old Arch Enemy tune have a riff that rips straight from Blue Oyster Cult's "Astronomy" (although sounds more similar to Metallica's great cover about 2 minutes in)???

Kiss "Sonic Boom" Artwork Revealed!

I think everyone who reads the blog knows that I will back all of Kiss's 70s catalog, as well as select 80s and 90s releases.

Today Kiss revealed the album art for "Sonic Boom" and it has a very 70s feel to it. It was created by Michael Doret, who also designed the "Rock 'n' Roll Over" sleeve, so I expected a little more. I can't say I like the purple/orange color combo, but it could be worse I guess...

Also below is a preview of the song "Modern Day Delilah", which sounds promising.

On October 6, the "Sonic Boom" will be released in the Kiss Korner" exclusively at Walmart. While I hate the store, I look forward to hearing what the band puts out at this point.

UPDATE: Full song is now available online. I like it. There is one part where Paul Stanley does some weird falsetto yell that isn't quite there before the solo, but besides that it sounds rockin' and Eric Singer rules. Check it out. KISSONLINE.com > News > KISS - MODERN DAY DELILAH

Metal Technology: Virtual Lighters

You may have noticed that The Metal Show did not grace the radio airwaves Tuesday from 8-9 p.m. I was doing edits at my internship at The Daily Iowan in Iowa City, IA, instead of bringing you the pulse-pounding metal tunes!

Believe me I would rather be broadcasting over the airwaves than editing stories, but people keep telling me it will help me to secure a job in the future or something.

Anyways, The Metal Show will be back next Tuesday from 8-9 p.m. only on KRUI 89.7FM.

But in the meantime, I am going to barrage you with a bunch of updates to this here blog.

Enjoy starting with...

Kiss Virtual Lighters

This is no means extremely recent news, but you can get a variety of virtual lighters on your iPhone (which The Metal Show does not use or endorse) via the app store. Bands like The WHO, Poison and Lil' Wayne all have lighters of their own that you can buy for $.99 so you don't have to worry about burning your thumbs during that next epic ballad at your favorite concert.

Features of the KISS Virtual Concert Lighter include:

* Free upgrades for life — new features will constantly be created for the Virtual Concert Lighters
* Fully customizable with a choice of 24 full-color official KISS lighter cases.
* Unique scrolling text marquee
* Realistic flame sways and moves as you move your hand
* Dynamic sound effects and musical riffs

All of us true metal heads know the good bands don't ever play slowly, so there isn't really time to whip out lighters.

Good ol' music marketing. Recently Gene Simmons even gave fans an opportunity to pee on his face... no joke. Apparently fans are even stealing these urinal cakes.

Riddle Me This: Kiss Edition

I remember wondering why Kiss's "God Gave Rock n Roll to You II" had the II at the end of it one day and I later found out that the song was originally written by 70's band Argent.

Compare it to early 90's Kiss and you will see that they made it their own, but it still is similar to the Argent song. However when Kiss performed it, the song brought world peace (Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey).

Now I just wonder if Argent ever got some money for writing credits or if Gene Simmons somehow got all the rights to this...

Gene Simmons Sells Out: Dr. Pepper Wild Cherry Commercial

The best damn sell-out in the business! Watch and learn as Gene markets the new Dr. Pepper Wild Cherry drink. I actually didn't mind the commercial and yes, I am a fan of Kiss.

Right now the band is in the studio working on the new one. I'm hoping it turns out to be good, but who knows at this point. Paul Stanley's producing it and Eric Singer on drums can't hurt anything!
