Rammstein: Anti-American Nazi-Lovers or just German Music Innovators?

Rammstein is preparing to release a new CD sometime this year in the good ol' USA. I admittedly only began liking the band long after the "Du Hast" days of old. At first I thought they were just being trendy, but the band definitely has a cool sound.

Apparently the first single off the latest album is called "Pussy" (with both English and German lyrics) and will be coming out as a digipack with another tune "Rammlied".

In the latest issue of Decibel, guitarist Richard Kruspe described the album as being a return back to Rammstein's heavier sound. Let's hope he's right.

Update: New album cover revealed below. Oh and the title of the CD is Liebe Ist Für Alle Da. Official release date is October 20.

Municipal Waste Release "Wrong Answer" Video

Massive Aggressive is a great album, which I recently awarded a four star review (out of five). Today the band released the video for the first single "Wrong Answer". It's an awesome crossover-thrash-metal tune that will keep you headbanging.

Funny horror style gore videos are always good in my book, even if this is cheesy (and low budget). It is a bit distracting from the song, but music videos are meant to be videos right?

UPDATE: Here is a live video of the song "Acid Sentence" also off Massive Aggressive.

Get Well Brother!

If you haven't heard, Ozzy Osbourne and Black Label Society guitarist Zakk Wylde was admitted to the hospital a few days back for blood clots. Apparently the shit got into his lungs and singing could cause an embolism, which is NOT good.

People die from this stuff all the time. So here's wishing Wylde a safe recovery from The Metal Show.

I think some old school BLS is in order. 13 Years of Grief and Stronger Than Death sound good to me! Nothing beats old school BLS.

Municipal Waste "Massive Aggressive" Review

Not just another thrash band

Municipal Waste: Massive Aggressive
**** out of *****

If one thing’s for sure, it’s that crossover act Municipal Waste knows how to throw a party. The righteous dudes in the band even wrote a concept album about slamming brews and skipping class with 2007’s The Art of Partying.

However, just like a college student about to enter her or his senior year, there comes a point of maturation. That is the case with the Waste’s newest album Massive Aggressive, which sees the band writing on topics outside of the realm of drunkenness and becoming all the better for it — the album is thrash-metal perfection.

Click here for the rest of the review (second on the page).

Candlemass 25th Anniversary: Epicus Doomicus Metallicus

Candlemass is celebrating 25 years of sludge-riffs and soaring vocals. Original vocalist Johan Längquist will join the band to play Epicus Doomicus Metallicus in its entirety.

Cool of Robert Lowe (current vocalist) to let them do this (hope all is well with him, because he is a great singer).

I still think this album has one of the most metal titles of all time. This is what DOOM metal should sound like!

Forbidden Gets Evil: "Adapt or Die"

Forbidden is an underground thrash metal band, that rocked the scene towards the end of the cycle around 1988 with the amazing release Forbidden Evil.

Now Forbidden is back with the new song "Adapt or Die" on the group's MySpace page.

The band does little adapting on the track and actually provides some ripping thrash that sounds like it could have been on one of the earlier albums. Check it out now and below I put a clip of one of my favorite Forbidden songs from the first album.

UPDATE: New Forbidden songs "Adapt or Die" and "Hopenosis" below.

New Scar Symmetry Sounds Badass!

Scar Symmetry is a Swedish death metal band that has been around for about five years now. Their older stuff was good, but I never fully got into them. I heard this new song "The Consciousness Eaters" today and it rocks.

The band recently lost vocalist Christian Alvestam who was replaced by Lars Palmqvist (clean vocals) and Roberth Karlsson (growls). The death metal barks have a little more bite and the clean stuff is more power metal driven, but in a good way.

I'm not trying to bash the original singer, just saying with these guys, the dual vocal attack works well.

Dark Matter Dimensions comes out on October 10 in the US.

Heavy Metal Party Monkeys

I don't have much to say about this, besides this is the best nature video I have ever seen. Hopefully these monkeys can learn to cope with their alcohol addiction and the problems it brings while still partying and having a good time!

In other less important news... Chickenfoot, the project featuring Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith, released the video for "Soap on a Rope" off the self-titled album. Sounds like good tequila drinkin' music to me.

Kiss "Sonic Boom" Artwork Revealed!

I think everyone who reads the blog knows that I will back all of Kiss's 70s catalog, as well as select 80s and 90s releases.

Today Kiss revealed the album art for "Sonic Boom" and it has a very 70s feel to it. It was created by Michael Doret, who also designed the "Rock 'n' Roll Over" sleeve, so I expected a little more. I can't say I like the purple/orange color combo, but it could be worse I guess...

Also below is a preview of the song "Modern Day Delilah", which sounds promising.

On October 6, the "Sonic Boom" will be released in the Kiss Korner" exclusively at Walmart. While I hate the store, I look forward to hearing what the band puts out at this point.

UPDATE: Full song is now available online. I like it. There is one part where Paul Stanley does some weird falsetto yell that isn't quite there before the solo, but besides that it sounds rockin' and Eric Singer rules. Check it out. KISSONLINE.com > News > KISS - MODERN DAY DELILAH

Megadeth Releases Another New Track from "Endgame": "1,320"

Megadeth put up the song "1,320" on the Roadrunner Web site. It sounds decent. An interesting main riff and some cool solo work from Chris Broderick.

I'm not 100% sure this will be the new-era Megadeth album to top "The System Has Failed" (you can't fuck with Chris Poland on lead guitar), but I have faith it will be better than "United Abominations".

John Bush Should Stay In Armored Saint

As much as I love Anthrax, I still don't think anything outside of "Sound of White Noise" or "We've Come For You All" can even touch the Armored Saint stuff with Bush on vocals.

Just to prove my point, below is demo of a new Saint track called "Loose Cannon" to be released on the band's forthcoming album due out in early 2010 (the group is entering the studio in October).

Goatwhore: "Apocalyptic Havoc" Music Video

Apocalyptic Havoc

Father of Rock 'n' Roll Les Paul Dies Today at Age 94 (RIP)

Les Paul will always be remembered as a legendary guitarist and builder among fans of music. He left a lasting mark on the world in the form of his Gibson Les Paul guitar which has been used by all of the greats including Jimmy Page, Ace Frehley, and Slash. Even the way recording is done was hugely influence by Paul's creation of the multitrack recorder.

Check out the New York Times obituary here. Rest in Peace Les Paul!

Sepultura's Andreas Kisser Releases Video for "Em Busco Do Oura"

Not exactly metal, but I dig it nonetheless. The track "Em Busco Do Oura" appears on Andreas Kisser's latest solo album, "Hubris I & II". The song is translated to "Looking for Gold" and the dude doing vocals is Zé Ramalho, a Brazilian artist.

Alice In Chains: One Step Closer to Release, Album Cover is Revealed!

I like it. The heart of Alice In Chains is definitely still alive and beating.

UPDATE: Now you can listen to the new song "Check My Brain" at the Metal Insider page. I like the trippy riff at the beginning and the song is catchy as hell. I'm surprised the band didn't release these as the first single.

UPDATE #2: "Check My Brain" is also available from YouTube below. The more I listen the more I can hear some Cantrell "Degradation Trip" influences, which is cool in my book.

Shadows Fall: "Still I Rise" Video

The Shads are back! I dig this track more than most of the stuff on "The War Within"! Good guitar work and the video is alright, even if the whole MMA thing is becoming redundant. I am psyched for the new CD now. Hopefully the rest of "Retribution" is as good or better.

Heavy Metal Foodservice Workers

Best way to try and get a band to come to your town ever (and a good marketing tool for Subway at that, if you don't mind people headbanging around food). Link posted by the dudes at metalsucks.net.

But it isn't just Subway workers that let their love of metal show. This Little Caesar's sign-holder rocks out with the best of them. Something about foodservice jobs just scream Heavy Metal I guess... maybe it's the aggression from minimum wage pay and annoying customers.

Lazarus A.D. is Thrash Metal

I never got around to checking Lazarus A.D. out until now, but I must say "Thou Shall Not Fear" is a groovin' song. The whole thrash revival thing may be a bit overdone by this point, but there are some great bands coming out of the scene.

Chuck Schuldiner Fan Club

Chuck Schuldiner is arguably the biggest musician to help spawn the death metal genre and during his lifetime he left a legacy of amazing albums with his band Death. Towards the end of his battle with cancer he also started up a power metal style band called Control Denied.

Now, Chuck's family has put together a Web site to try and finally get a proper release for Control Denied's second unreleased album. $25 gets you a membership to the fan club, T-shirt, and chance to win some cool prizes by entering an essay contest.

Check out the site here.

Ahhh! It's Gojira! (Also Buckethead)

As if October wasn't metal enough with Halloween, the most of evil of holidays, and some sweet concerts in Des Moines (Check out those here), now Iowa City decided it needed to get in the mix and host some awesome bands!

The big draw? Gojira at the The Picador on Saturday, October 10 (yes the same night as AC/DC in Des Moines, now I have to choose!). This band is so badass in a way that only the music can describe, so check out some of their stuff below. "The Way of All Flesh" made my top five in 2008.

Other notable acts include:
Tues September 8: Emmure with Evergreen Terrace, Stick to Your Guns, For Today, and Oceano @ The Picador.

Thurs September 17: Victor Wooten @ The Picador.

Also coming to The Picador on Monday, September 14, is the shredmaster himself, Buckethead. Just watch the videos below. Badass!

I found this cool video of Buckethead jamming when he was younger too.

Rock Is Not Going Wild in Northwood, Iowa.

I briefly mentioned the Rock Gone Wild festival on the blog a few months back, mainly because it had some solid acts, including Saxon (who rarely tour the US), Twisted Sister and Armored Saint.

However, now I am writing about it again to say that the concert (which WAS a little over priced) is now canceled due to a last minute statement from Diamond Jo Casino which said that they could no longer hold the festival.

Maybe it will be rescheduled, but the event has already moved locations once, so who knows if management will want to take the time and money to move it again.

Click on the image below for a list of bands that would have been playing if Rock Gone Wild actually took place.

UPDATE: Slipknot's planned festival on September 9, 2009, in Des Moines, Iowa? Yeah, that's canceled too. What is going on here?!

Behemoth: "Ov Fire and The Void" = One F**ked Up Music Video!

See the guys in Behemoth play some awesome music, alongside more naked imagery than you ever needed to witness. Also see a hot chick bleed all over people and give birth to a demon baby. Oh and the band eats an angel. Not quite sure what is all going on here, but I know that crazy son of a bitch Nergal truly believes in it, so that's good enough for me.

I just dig the tune! "Evangelion" is out on Tuesday.

Behemoth "Ov Fire And The Void" from Metal Blade Records on Vimeo.

Extreme Concert Info: Lamb of God, GWAR, Dethklok and Mastodon are coming to Des Moines!

Not all together mind you, but they will be here in pairs in October.

First off, Lamb of God, GWAR, and Job For a Cowboy will play at the Val Air Ballroom on Friday, October 9! I am most excited about GWAR because they have been known to put on amazing live shows. Check out a preview of the madness below.

Don't forget about AC/DC hitting the Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday, October 10.

As if that wasn't good enough, Dethklok and Mastodon will be at Val Air on Wednesday, October 14.

Looks like Iowa is starting to get some good music after all! Lets up this starts a trend.

Cannibal Corpse Mayhem!

Check out this cool video of Cannibal Corpse doing the brutal track "Priests of Sodom" on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival.

Ozzy's New Guitarist Revealed?

It is rumored that Ozzy might be playing BlizzCon with guitarist Gus G instead of Zakk Wylde. It still seems lame that Ozzy is not telling long-time guitarist Wylde what is going on, but Gus G would be a good choice for a replacement.

He is a badass guitarist that might provide a breath of fresh air in Ozzy's career. Check out his work with Firewind below.

Imagine if Ozzy kepy Wylde and also got Gus G as a second guitarist. That would be insane, although I don't think Wylde and Gus G's styles match-up.

What's Up Anthrax??? Part 3

See Anthrax perform a tune with John Bush below. Sounds like the band is in top form and more energetic than it seemed with Bush before he left upon Belladonna's return.

Part of me wants him to stay in Armored Saint though. I always thought that was the band which best suited his vocals. Also, has anyone seen interviews with Scott Ian lately?

He seems to be sucking up to Bush pretty hard, trying to get him to come back. Obviously he knows the band is in a bad place right now, with the dismissal of Dan Nelson, but at least have some dignity man! He was talking about crying after the Sonisphere Festival and all of that. Seems like a bit much to me...

I just hope Nelson "accidentally" leaks his version of "Worship Music" online. That would make things even crazier. You would think if all the instrumental tracks were laid down, once Anthrax figures out the vocalist situation, they could re-record that shit really fast. Early 2010 maybe?
